FIREFIGHTER/EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN – COMBINED PROGRAM
The Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter Minimum Standards Class combined program is a two-semester program designed to prepare individuals for careers in emergency services. Students will gain the foundational knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience necessary to respond effectively to both medical emergencies and fire-related incidents.

Semester 1 Emergency Medical Technician: The EMT 300-hour program includes hands-on and in-person instruction components. This program focuses on pre-hospital emergency care. Students will be required to complete assigned workbook readings with objective based assignments, quizzes and interactive online lectures, and in-person lectures, skills labs, and practical training sessions.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exam.
Semester 2 Firefighter Minimum Standards Class: This 492-hour program is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, covering both Firefighter I and Firefighter II levels. The program includes classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, and live fire exercises that simulate real-world emergency situations.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to take the practical and written exam to become a Florida Certified Firefighter.

 

Eligibility Requirements:
• Be a high school graduate or the equivalent
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Pass a background check as determined by the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal (Florida Statute ch. 633.412(2) )
• Have a good moral character
• Be in good physical condition
• Be a non-user of tobacco products for one year
• Emergency Medical Responder Certificate (Offered by RTC prior to class)

The MSC program is normally offered during Spring and Fall Semesters.


Open Enrollment dates

Spring January 2nd or the following business day.
Fall July 1st or the following business day.

Required Application Steps
1.Fill out pre-application form at the academy during open enrollment.
2.Attend mandatory meeting (Scheduled at time the pre-application form is filled out)
3.Turn in the complete package (including medical exam and negative drug screen) by the due date provided at the mandatory meeting.
4.Pass Physical Agility Test.

After all steps have been met, students are eligible to be accepted into the academy.

Important Note:
Applying online does not guarantee class enrollment. Prospective students must complete all “Required Application Steps”, including submission of required documents and medical clearance. Only candidates who meet all criteria will receive an official acceptance letter into the program.
